What this job actually is
Our crews handle crime scene and trauma cleanup, unattended death remediation, hoarding cleanouts, and fire, water, and mold restoration across southern Wisconsin. On any given week that can mean setting containment in a home where someone died alone, hauling drying equipment into a flooded basement at midnight, sorting a hoarded farmhouse at a grieving family’s pace, or crawling an attic chasing smoke damage. The work is physical: lifting, kneeling, working in protective equipment that gets hot, and sometimes long shifts when an emergency runs long. The work is emotional: you will meet people on the worst day of their lives, and how you carry yourself in their home matters as much as the technical result. And the work is on-call by nature: disasters don’t schedule, so some nights and weekends belong to the phone.
Here’s the other side of that honesty. Very few jobs let you leave a family’s home genuinely better than any other person who could have walked through the door that day. Our technicians end shifts knowing a house is safe again, a scene is gone before children came home, a farmhouse full of family history was treated with respect. The work trains you in real skills, containment, remediation science, structural drying, documentation, and it builds the kind of steadiness most careers never test for. Steadiness over squeamishness
You don’t need experience with difficult scenes; you need the temperament to work them calmly and the maturity to treat every home with dignity. Training covers the rest.
Reliability that survives 2 a.m.
Emergency response only works if the crew shows up. We need people whose word holds at inconvenient hours, with a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
Discretion as a reflex
What we see in people’s homes stays there. If you’re the type who tells stories, this isn’t your industry.
Physical capability
Lifting, carrying, ladder work, and full days in personal protective equipment. We work safely and by the book, and the book still requires a working back.
Care in the details
Our reputation is built on verification and documentation: moisture readings logged, photographs taken, steps completed in order. Corner-cutters cost families money and us our name.
Temperament over resume
Experience in restoration, construction trades, healthcare, EMS, military service, or caregiving translates well here, but the honest truth is that the temperament matters more than the resume, and we train for the skills.
